Most of us went through these. And I love the colors on that site.

Circulation Plunges at Major Newspapers - Save On Home Delivery!

Tuesday, October 31st, 2006

Ethan Kaplan at BlackRimGlasses has a post up about the major newspaper losing circulation. Feedburner (I think) thought they’d be funny with the feed ads, and this is what I saw in Google Reader a few minutes ago:

21 Things I Want in a Lover Handheld Communications Device

Monday, October 30th, 2006

With heartfelt apologies to Alanis:

  • Fits in a normal-sized pocket
  • A distinct absence of Windows(tm)
  • A navigation system based in user-experience reality
  • Able to use a wifi connection for data and voice traffic when available
  • Able to run, quickly, an appropriately standards-compliant web browser
  • Likewise an email client
  • Likewise some form or news/rss reader
  • Likewise a multi-protocol IM client
  • Has a decent camera (~2mp for mobile pics)
  • Might as well play real music
  • And video, since it’s MY list
  • A bright, 720 x 480 (or better) resolution screen
  • Sync all applicable content (contacts, feeds, bookmarks, music, video) with my Macs (Yes, more than one)
  • Bluetooth 2.0, compatible with Bluetooth keyboards &/or mice
  • Capable of being managed with one hand for non-data-entry tasks
  • Have a usable keyboard/thumbboard for data-entry/web/email/IM
  • Some form of presence management (busy/away/available/driving)
  • Is a Quad-band phone, since you never know where you’r going to be
  • Multi-tasking capable (my rss reader, IM, and email better be able to work simultaneously)
  • A decent speaker so that my alerts (incoming call or otherwise) are crisp even when not loud
  • Is itself a work of nearly indescribable beauty

Gums of the Tiger

Monday, October 30th, 2006

I read Tom Clancy’s “Teeth Of The Tiger” this weekend. Yawn.

Ad-less, fun stuff

Friday, October 27th, 2006

I finally got around to removing the Google ads from monkinetic. I never did make money off them (though Google insists it sent me a $100 check back in ‘05 sometime) and I was beginning to find them annoying. So… buh bye.

I also spent 10 minutes last night and tweaked the “R.E.M. says” box: it now loads a new quote when you click the “tell me more” link, and I added a picture of the band, for, you know, fun.

Yet Another Update Post

Wednesday, October 25th, 2006

So, perhaps I should rename this site to “That-Which-Shall-Not-Be-Updated”. ;-)

I’ve now been at GoDaddy now for about 3 months, and I’ve worked converting website templates, done some design work, and developed the (X)HTML and CSS foundation for two of our applications. All in all, focused and engaging work.

On the home front, Adelina has been playing soccer (and really enjoying it!), and she made it through her Fall break. Fall break was interesting - her first whole week off, and it meant staying with a kind neighbor for several hours a day. It took her a couple days to adjust to being around new people so much, and she was pretty emotional all week.

To finish the week up in style, we did some research and headed out to Apache Lake, north and east of Phoenix, for an overnight camping trip - our first in several years, and Adelina’s first ever! (For a picture of the lake, see here - our campsite was just to the left and behind you from this angle - no, that’s not me in the picture - funny, Mark) It wasn’t quite as beautiful as in the picture - the lake level had been dropped by about 20′ for dam inspections.

So, what’s new with you?

Update: our pictures from the trip are up, starting with this one.
