VoodooPad Tips

Thursday, March 23rd, 2006

Mike McCracken shares some tips on how he uses VoodooPad to manage his life. I love VoodooPad, and have a huge document that I use to track a multitude of projects, applications, resources, and notes; it’s especially useful for work.

The Great Carrier Reef

Wednesday, March 22nd, 2006

I couldn’t resist - the headline used in the local paper was too good. The aircraft carrier Oriskany, veteran of the Korean and Vietnam conflicts and base of operations for Senator John McCain while he was a Navy pilot, is being sunk off the coast of Florida to create the largest man-made reef to date. I’ll bet that’s going to be a wild sight.

LEGO… Aircraft Carrier? Wow.

I’d say someone had waaaaayyyyy to much time on their hands, but really I just have fantasies of being the guy who built this aircraft carrier out of LEGO. (Via Bill).

Scotch eggs

Wednesday, March 22nd, 2006

Scotch egg:

A Scotch egg is a snack food of Scottish origin consisting of a cold, hard-boiled egg removed from its shell, wrapped in a sausage meat mixture, coated in breadcrumbs, and deep-fried. It is eaten cold, typically with salad and pickles.

I used to have these at the Whitehorse Pub at Pembroke Mall, in Virginia Beach. From their menu:

Boiled Eggs, encased in Pork Sausage, breaded, deep fried and served with White Horse Mustard.

Huh. I got an invite to Google’s new Pages application. It’s not bad, as these things go. But there’s not a lot to tempt your basic power user.

Mac OS X Mobile

Monday, March 20th, 2006

Mac OS X Mobile:

First, a necessary disclaimer: there is no Mac OS X Mobile. It’s a fictional version of OS X designed for PDA devices, which I’ve just made up and which I’m going to discuss in this blog post, since I’ve been thinking about PDAs a lot lately. Once again: this is all theoretical and just for the purposes of discussion.

Oh, but what a fun discussion.

Iterating features and getting them right

Iterating features and getting them right:

The reason I mention this is because we’re currently revisiting our browser stats in the application, and it’s a really good example of the process. We started with one simple screen: what percentage of your users visited with IE, Firefox, Safari, or “Other” — along with a way to change the date range being viewed.

I flagged this mostly as a pretty UI snapshot.
