“My apologies for the sound quality… it seems the more updates that Skype provides, the more functionality it breaks. It took us nearly an entire hour to get this Tech Chat going… but we prevailed in the end!”
Man, this was annoying. Indeed, each Skype update seems to remove features. This is not a good sign, and Skype needs to start communicating with its users and explaining itself. Oh, and how’s this for a change log entry?
- change: improved forced upgrade procedure
I’d ask, improved for whom?
This is the reason I can't stand Skype in comparison to a real, open-standards based VoIP solution. Single vendor, single source of failure.
The thing that Skype did was put an IM-like face on VoIP. Buddy lists, chat, etc. The fact that it's a P2P system means not having to setup Asterisk or some other server. And X-lite? What a peice of crap. Not a bad softphone once you get connected, but figuring out the interface and getting it configured is murder.
