Jake

Monday, January 26th, 2004

Well, we got another cat this weekend! “Jake” was adopted from animal control, was already fixed and so could come home with us on Saturday.

Jake’s 1 year old, so is still basically a kitten, and he still has his claws - and he’s fast! I think we’ve been lulled into vulnerability by having older cats - Jake is a handfull! smile

Still, it’s great having two cats again and Jake is a real sweetie. Here’s hoping Lucy (current home owner, er, cat) will take to him!

Note To Self

Monday, January 26th, 2004

Don’t cut off a cop in an unmarked SUV who’s driving his daughter to school in the morning. Bad idea.

I thought the street I was turning onto was two-lane at that point, and thought I was turning into the near lane - it was only after he slowed dramatically that I realized he had no where to turn into…. D’oh!!!

Anyway, when he asked if I knew why he’d pulled me over, I honestly told him that I’d cut him off, and apologized sincerely. He took my license and went back to radio it in - that’s when I noticed the young girl in the passenger seat in my rear-view mirror. Crap, I thought. I cut off a cop with his daughter in the car. I’m dead.

Fortunately he let me off with a warning. Whew. Thanks God.

U2

Friday, January 16th, 2004

I’m listening to mid-vintage U2 today: Joshua Tree and Rattle and Hum. Eventually I’ll get to early-vintage: War, Boy, October. October is my fav of the early stuff: I spent many hours as a teen learning The Edge’s guitar licks on Gloria on an old classical guitar. (Slipping into nostalgia…)

Python links

Friday, January 16th, 2004

Jim posted a useful link to a new list of all the magic variables that are used in python modules to make them play nice with scripts, other modules, and documentation systems. Included in the page is a link to something I’d never used before, the “amazing pydoc module” which looks super useful. Much nicer than typing help(foo) in the python intepreter IMO.

Bug/Issue Tracking software & OS X

Sunday, January 4th, 2004

If you’re a small developer and have found a bug-tracking or issue-tracking system that you really like, please ping me at steve AT this site. I’m especially interested if you’re using it in a mainly Mac OS X environment.

I’m assuming something web-based, but am open to whatever may be working for you. Bugzilla is not an option. I’m a multi-purpose support person and I don’t want to install/configure/babysit Bugzilla.

Thanks!
