The Mexican

Tuesday, December 18th, 2001

We’re watching The Mexican. It’s cute, and James Gandolfini is the best part so far. Overall it’s fun, and clever.

Spidey senses tingling!!

Cool! Check out the new trailer for Spiderman… Oh I cannot wait. I’ve been waiting for this movie since 1994.

Can’t Wait!

Tuesday, December 11th, 2001

Thanks to Google’s new 20 year archive of usenet posts, comes this little gem:

“Revenge of the Jedi”… Episode 6 in the Star Wars saga, has just finished filming, according to some friends I have down in Arizona.
The release date for us humans that want to see it is still the summer of 1983. I guess it takes that long to score all the music, do all the film-editing, prepare all the promo material, and all that junk.
I wish Lucas & Co. would get the thing going a little faster. I can’t really imagine waiting until 1997 to see all nine parts of the Star Wars series.”

LOL.

Goodbye Word!

Tuesday, December 11th, 2001

Via this post on slashdot, I’ve discovered a great little word processor that’s native to Mac OS X, Okito Composer. I think it’ll do 90% of what I need a word processor for.

Getting in shape

Tuesday, December 11th, 2001

Once upon a time I was a really good rock climber. My friends and I would be at the rock gym twice a week, and be up in the Appalachians climbing on weekends when the weather allowed.

Fast forward 6 years, and I’ve been programming web apps for a while, got myself married at some point, and have basically turned to mush. We’ve moved out to Phoenix, Arizona, and I’m betting there’s some good rock out here somewhere.

So I’ve devised a simple starting regimen of exercise, just to get me to the point where I can go to the rock gym without making a complete fool of myself. This week’s goals: 15 situps, 10 pushups, and (I am such a wuss) 7 pullups - daily, morning and night. I have got to remind my body that it used to be capable of some pretty amazing things - I know I can get back there.

Cocoa Programming Topics: Using Browsers

Monday, December 10th, 2001

The “column-view” in Mac OS X, affectionately known to Cocoa geeks as an NSBrowser, is a really really awesome and efficient way of browsing hierarchies. I’m working on an app (on and off) that needs an NSBrowser, so I’m posting this link to the Using Browsers topic of the Cocoa Programming Topics documentation.
