D-Backs 4, Yankees 0

Sunday, October 28th, 2001

Oh God, what’s happening to me?

I’ve never cared a whit about professional sports, baseball especially. But when I saw this link via Scripting News, I could not suppress a “YYESss!!!”

What have I become?

Love That Globalization

Sunday, October 28th, 2001

This is, in fact, not a sarcastic comment on the Americanization of the world. In the process of moving to Phoenix, I’ve apppreciated the fact that I can go to a Target, a Walmart, or a Blockbuster and know how it works.

There are frighteningly dark sides to this convenience, and many parallels in the software world that are just as frightening. But for the moment, as I hang my shower curtain from Target, and watch my movies from Blockbuster, I’m diggin’ it.

Final Fantasy… Finally

Sunday, October 28th, 2001

Well, I finally rented Final Fantasy. I think I’m glad I did not see it in the theater - the graphics are amazing, but I’m not sure they could withstand the scrutiny on a full-size movie screen. The plot is not bad though.

We’re here

Sunday, October 21st, 2001

And we’re mostly in one piece. I’m writing this post on, yes, my new TiBook, christened “Ti Fighter”. I love that you can name your Mac. I’m going to ramble.

The trip was, as most 2390 mile trips are, exhausting. Dad and I drove… a lot. Here’s a quick breakdown:

Thursday: start at 4:30 am EST, drive 700+ miles from Portsmouth, VA, to just past Nashville, TN (14 hours in the truck). Friday: start at 5:00 am EST and drive 700+ miles to just past Oklahoma City, OK (14 hours). Saturday: start at 5:00 am CST and drive 800 miles to Flagstaff, AZ (15.5 hours). Sunday (today!??): start at 7:00 am PST (Arizona does not do DST so it’s on PST now) and drive 120 miles to Phoenix, AZ (2.5 hours).

We unloaded the stuff that went into storage. I returned the auto-transport and we drove over to the apartment complex. dropped the U-Haul off and went to lunch. Came back after the leasing office opened (1 pm) and did the paperwork. Sam Shoen (new boss and all around awesome fellow) , Matt Diaz, and Jim Burgess helped Dad and I move the remaining ton and a half (or so <grin>) of stuff from the truck into the second floor apartment.

Well, everyonee is gone, Dad is at a hotel near Sky Harnor Airport, and I’m here feeling wasted but glad to be sleeping in my own place tonight. Granted, it’s complete chaos, but I got the bed put together and I’ve been surfing on the TiBook and eating cold pizza.

Well, that’s about all I have energy for tonight. More later. Ciao.

in absentia

Thursday, October 18th, 2001

This is Steve’s wife, Jodi. Just thought you all might like to know that Steve (and cats) are on the road to Arizona as of 4 am this morning. But the adventure has evidently just begun.

I wrote about their first escapade (Herding Cats) on my site if you’re interested: .

Upon arrival he will be receiving his Titanium Powerbook, and I’m sure you’ll all be hearing much about it. ;-)

Garage Man

Saturday, October 13th, 2001

I’ve spent the better part of today (and I do mean it was better ;-)) out in the soon-to-be-no-longer-mine garage, cleaning and packing and seperating the valuable shit from the ditritus. The valuable stuff get’s either packed or put into the moving-sale pile. The ditritus goes into the Big Black Can. Rockin out to the radio (oh god for a portable MP3 player) and futzing around the garage. Heaven.
